Styling Solution is your personal guide, helping you put outfits together while shopping in stores.
Fashion retailers always want to lower costs and boost sales. With digital influence on store sales ever increasing, they are looking for ways to move inventory in a way that customers respond to. In-store shoppers want the styling advice they can get from sales associates, but increasingly prefer not talking to one. They also use digital devices to get product information, check availability and make payments.
The founders of Styling solution approached First Person to help develop the first version of their app as a way of securing investment in developing the app more in the future.
Suggesting outfit matches by connecting shoppers with online inventory, the Styling Solution app is a bridge between retailers and their customers. Shoppers get accessory suggestions to go with clothing they scan and are able to buy from online stores to complete their outfits. Retailers move inventory and keep in-store costs down.
The app has the capability of capturing customer data as well. With the potential to learn individual customer taste, the app can suggest better pairings to drive more sales.
Our app MVP helped the company founders become finalists for the New York Fashion Tech Lab startup accelerator program.
UX & Design
The app itself is easy to use. With a simple scan of a QR or barcode, pre-paired items are served as suggested outfit completions. They then receive three outfit suggestions—a daytime look, a nighttime look, and a work appropriate look—that coordinates with the in-store item they scanned.
Shoppers can purchase any of the suggested items from the store online via Safari browser. They can also save items they like but aren’t ready to purchase into their favorites. All scanned items can also be accessed at anytime.
I was responsible for assessing features, doing additional market research, creating an app flow, wireframes and design. I also coordinated with a developer to ensure the app functioned as expected. The app was deployed via Test Flight with content managed by Contentful so the app founders could convince retailers and investors, to partner with them.
